PLACENTIA BAY MILITARY HISTORY RESEARCH PROJECT -

In partnership between The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 33, Placentia,
and the Festival of Flags, Placentia, NL.
You are cordially invited to visit the research findings from Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the Placentia Bay Military History Research Project, conducted by the Festival of Flags, in partnership with The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 33, Placentia, between 2011-2013, and funded throughout by Advanced Education and Skills, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Placentia Bay Military History Research Project research findings can be found in the database located at Placentia Bay Military History Research Project, on the top of the page of the Festival of Flags website at placentiafof.weebly.com.
Phase 1 and 2 of the Placentia Bay Military History Research Project, carried out by Festival of Flags research team in 2011 – 2012, focused on research of the military service of Placentia Bay men and women in WW1 and WW 11. In Phase 3, Festival of Flags staff conducted research on Placentia Bay military service personnel in the Korean Conflict and Peacekeeping. The Royal Canadian Legion and Festival of Flags provided supervisory and administrative support to the research team for the three phases of the project.
In 2005, The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 33, produced a commemorative book for the “Year of the Veteran and the 60th Anniversary of the End of World War 11”. This commemorative book prepared the way for the extensive research carried out in these later three phases, covering the entire Placentia Bay region, including the 156 former and existing communities of Placentia Bay, from Ship Harbour, Fox Harbour – Placentia area to the Cape Shore and the Burin Peninsula to Marystown - St. Lawrence - Lawn.
The research findings of the Placentia Bay Military History Research Project are also available for your review and input on www.placentiabay.ca or on the Festival of Flags Facebook page You are invited to provide your input to Festival of Flags regarding any collected data in this research project that needs correction or modification.
